PRN SANE RN Job Description

POSITION ELIGIBLE FOR SIGN-ON BONUS

COVERSA exists to provide victims of sexual violence with immediate, compassionate, and competent forensic medical services by Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) trained to properly collect forensic evidence.  Founded in 2000, COVERSA contracts with area hospitals to provide victims of sexual assault with forensic evidence collection and care to address the victim’s emotional and medical needs.

Position Summary

The PRN SANE position would cover on-call shifts monthly. SANEs are required to sign up for a minimum of 24 hours of on-call time throughout the month.

**If you have not already been through training, but are interested in being trained, please still inquire! The minimum qualifications for training applications are Missouri and Kansas nursing licenses as well as having been active in the nursing field for at least 2 years. Preferable nursing experience includes specialty departments: Emergency Department, ICU, Women’s Health, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Sign up for on-call shifts via the nurse schedule that cover a minimum number of call hours, including weekend, holidays, and other scheduling requirements as determined by the SANE program.
  • Adhere to all COVERSA SANE policies and procedures, clinical processes, and administrative requirements.
  • Fill out all appropriate documentation for all forensic cases.
  • Maintain nurse supply bag and always keep in car when on-call.
  • Maintain CEUs and all appropriate trainings for SANE certification as well as individual hospital requirements.
  • Effective communicator and aware of trauma-informed best practices.
  • Work well with community partners such as advocacy.

 Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of the dynamics and issues related to domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Experience and knowledge of victim services and advocacy.
  • SANE certified

 Experience and Skill Required

  • Physical demands include, but are not limited to, long periods of sitting, standing, and/or driving, repetitive use of upper extremities, ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Current Missouri and Kansas Registered Nurse Licensure or higher.
  • Able to pass a background check and start immediately.

Full-Time SANE Job Description

Position Summary

The full-time SANE position would cover on-call shifts 1 week per month, act as a backup as needed throughout the remainder of the month, and assist with education and community outreach for COVERSA. The full-time SANE position would be responsible for advancing the current education program, assist with training and onboarding new SANE nurses, and attend committee meetings as needed for community involvement. This position will assist the Director of Clinical Services as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with management of the nurse call schedule and work to fill in shifts with contract nurses.
  • Act as a point of contact for nurses and hospitals.
  • Audit charts on cases worked by other nurses, as needed.
  • Able to cover a 24-hour on-call shift, 1 week per month. During the week of being on-call, there wouldn’t be any office hours required. The only duties during this week would be responding to any calls for activation that come in.
  • During the 3 other weeks of the month, the SANE nurse would assist with the general education program and getting the internal training program established.
  • Occasionally act as a proctor for new nurses throughout their training.
  • Attend meetings and participate in committee work with KCIRSA and SART teams as needed.
  • Maintain good working relationships and information sharing with other SANE programs.
  • Other office and administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Ensure all hospital partners have supplies at each location; monitor supplies at the office and order as needed.
  • Motivated attitude and able to be flexible with tasks and responsibilities.

  • $75,000 annual salary
