COVERSA exists to provide victims of sexual violence with immediate, compassionate, and competent forensic medical services by Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) trained to properly collect forensic evidence.  Founded in 2000, COVERSA contracts with area hospitals to provide victims of sexual assault with forensic evidence collection and care to address the victim’s emotional and medical needs.

If you are interested in forensic work, but not currently SANE trained, we will assist with training opportunities that can meet your needs.

Full-Time Position

The full-time SANE position would cover 10, 24-hour on-call shifts per month, and have approximately 80 hours of office-type work to include assisting with education and community outreach for COVERSA, educational needs of other nurses, etc. Full-time SANEs would work as a team to accomplish many goals concurrently. Office/educational projects and meetings as discussed and assigned.

Salary & Benefits

  • Sign-on bonus of $5000 with this signed two-year commitment: $2500 at beginning of Full-time schedule then the remaining $2500 after 60 days if the employee is not on probation from disciplinary action. (If separation occurs before the two years, for any reason, the employee is responsible for paying back $5000 for any time up to 1 year, $2500 from 13-23 months).
  • $75,000 annual salary.
  • Eligible for a bonus of $150 per additional day of call coverage outside of contractual schedule; additionally, compensated for case worked commensurate with the SANE protocol.
  • Employer health insurance benefits of $600 toward health insurance premiums (this is not a cash benefit and can only be applied to health insurance premiums of plans offered by COVERSA).
  • 10 days or 80 hours of PTO annually.

Part-Time Position

The part-time SANE position would cover 7, 24-hour on-call shifts per month (these can also be broken up into 12-hour shifts if preferable).

Salary & Benefits

  • Sign-on bonus of $2500 with this signed two-year commitment: $1500 at beginning of part-time schedule then the remaining $1000 after 60 days if the employee is not on probation from disciplinary action.
  • Eligible for a bonus of $150 per additional day of call coverage outside of contractual schedule; additionally, compensated for case worked commensurate with the SANE protocol.
  • No employer benefits offered for the part-time position.

PRN Contractor Position

This contractor position requires a commitment to cover at least 48 hrs of call coverage per month.   24 hours of the 48-hour coverage must be night calls. (Nurses are able to sign up for more shifts than the minimum).  Weekend coverage may be required to meet your minimum call obligations.

  • Contract worker position, no employer benefits offered.
  • On-call pay, case pay, increased rates offered for shift differential and holidays all per SANE Policies and Procedures.
  • Eligible for a sign-on bonus of $1000 once 40-hour didactic training is complete. If the applicant is already SANE trained they are eligible for a bonus after sign-on paperwork is completed with a two-year contract.

Job Duties - All Positions

  • SANE must respond promptly to the requester of COVERSA services.
  • When a forensic examination is requested, the SANE must respond to the examination site at the hospital contracted with COVERSA within one hour barring impediments such as weather or road hazards.
  • SANE must participate in a post chart audit follow-up as needed.
  • SANE must provide forensic nursing services in a professional, confidential and compassionate manner.
  • SANE will provide fact or expert witness testimony when requested by local prosecutors for forensic cases which the SANE performed.
  • Commit to a minimum of 48 hrs of call coverage per month for COVERSA to provide the services of a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE). A minimum of 24 hours of night call is required. (Nurses are able to sign up for more shifts than the minimum).
  • Weekend coverage may be required to meet your minimum call obligations.
  • Attend 4/6 staff meetings per year.
  • Must cover one holiday per year (COVERSA recognizes New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day).

 Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of the dynamics and issues related to domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Experience and knowledge of victim services and advocacy.
  • SANE certified.

 Experience and Skill Required

  • Physical demands include, but are not limited to, long periods of sitting, standing, and/or driving, repetitive use of upper extremities, ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Current Missouri and Kansas Registered Nurse Licensure or higher.
  • Able to pass a background check.
