Even though rape has likely occurred for as long as humankind has existed, there has only been a concerted effort to better understand the issue and meet the needs of survivors since the early 1970s.

Before COVERSA, (Collection of Victim Evidence Regarding Sexual Assault), a victim's only option to receive treatment and guidance after being sexually assaulted, was to go to an Emergency Department where they often had to wait several hours in a busy, public waiting area. As a consequence of delay in meeting their physical and emotional needs, many victims decided it was not worth the effort or embarrassment to report their assault.

COVERSA is a non-profit organization established to provide a comprehensive exam for the assault victim and continuity of care in conjunction with SANE and sexual assault advocates like MOCSA (Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault) in the privacy of a quiet, community based setting.

The advisory board for COVERSA includes distinguished criminal justice professionals from several counties. This collaboration aids in the facilitation of the apprehension and conviction of the rapist.

With your support, we can help restore dignity to victims of sexual assault by collecting forensic evidence, expanding awareness about sexual assault and pairing victims with a continuum of care to support their recovery.

Thank you.
