Sexual Assault is never the fault of the victim
Sexual Assault is a crime of violence one in which sex is used as a weapon to intimidate, control and humiliate the victim.
An estimated 683,000 adult women are forcibly raped each year; 1,871 a day; 1.3 per minute.
1 in 4 females will be a victim of sexual assault during their lifetime.
A person can be assaulted by someone she/he knows: including a current or previous dating partner. Eighty four percent of all sexual assaults are committed by an acquaintance of the victim.
Sexual assault is one of the most under reported violent crimes, with only 16 percent being reported.
Six out of 10 sexual assault incidents occur in the victims home or that of a friend, relative, or neighbor.

Nonconsensual sexual penetration by physical force, by threat of bodily harm, or when the victim is incapable of giving consent by virtue of mental illness, mental retardation, or intoxication. Legally, acquaintance rape carries the same penalties as sexual assault committed by a stranger. |
